Kalverringdijk 7

Kalverringdijk 7

The only three-story wooden house in the Zaanse Schans… The building at Kalverringdijk 7 is a unique sight in the Zaanse Schans as the only home with three stories. Buildings with extra levels are rare in Zaan-style timber construction. The building is constructed entirely of pine and has a well-preserved timber support structure. Despite considerable damage to the 18th- and 19th-century facade, architect Cornelis de Jong was able to reconstruct it by means of an old photograph and an extensive study of the building. Before being relocated to the Zaanse Schans, the building served as a storefront for a manufactory and a vegetable shop. The house dates back to around 1650 and features a beautiful carved wooden crest. In the 1960s, it was transported on a flatbed truck from Noorderkerkstraat in the center of Zaandam to the Kalverpolder, where it is now a striking, historic asset to the Zaanse Schans.
