Zonnewijzerspad 6

Zonnewijzerspad 6

The sexton of the Baptist congregation used to live here… Zonnewijzerspad 6 is a former sexton’s residence from Koog aan de Zaan, dating back to around 1650. Previously, it was located on Lagedijk in Zaandijk, adjacent to the Baptist Vermaning. A ‘vermaning’ is a wooden ‘schuilkerk’ – a church that was not permitted to be recognizable as such. The municipality later donated this house to the Zaanse Schans, and it was occupied for decades by Mr. and Mrs. IJskes. Bernhard IJskes was one of the founders of the Vereniging ‘Vrienden van de Zaanse Schans’ (‘Friends of the Zaanse Schans’ Association) in 1961.
